Overwhelm has been my best teacher. Want to know why?


In 2020, I was working in the cruise industry. On a day in January, a guest called me from the middle of the Pacific Ocean to share they had just been told no port would let them dock. His question was, “How am I going to get home?”


After my initial shock, we had no idea what was happening and this was my first call of the day at 7 am Pacific. When my supervisor arrived, I asked, What is happening? I shared what I had been told by a guest and asked, what could I tell him when he called me back in a couple of hours. My supervisor's response was, “I am not sure.”


As we all know it was a few months later when we ALL were confronted with having “to move home” for work and school and everything else. Of course, when your whole family is at home 24/7 all sorts of things can happen, right? For me, during this time my emotional overwhelm and stress showed up daily. I had to confront things I had been avoiding for years. I found that overwhelm and stress had me…


  • On edge and snappy with those I loved most.
  • Not sleeping well and tired a lot of the time
  • Making poor decisions about food, exercise, and self-care because of overwhelm and stress.


During that time, I was introduced to embodiment practices that helped me manage my feelings of overwhelm and stress I was able to sleep better, make positive choices around self-care, including food and exercise, and rediscovered my joy.
