When the Heart Speaks
Learning to quiet the mind, listen to your heart, and prepare to speak your truth.

Today's blog is a companion to this weeks Podcast featuring guest Vicky Garrett.
Life can be noisy.
Our schedules are full, our minds are busy, and even our best intentions can get lost beneath the steady hum of “shoulds” and “to-dos.”
In the midst of all that noise, it’s easy to forget that there’s another voice waiting to be heard—
one that whispers instead of shouts,
one that guides instead of demands.
That’s the voice of your heart.
This week on The Creative Connection, I had the joy of sitting down with Vicky Garrett, Emotional Wellness & Life Coach and founder of Heart Chatter Life. Vicky helps sensitive, big-hearted adults learn to self-regulate their emotions and nervous systems—so they can move from overwhelm and overthinking into calm, clarity, and courageous action.
Together, we explored what it really means to listen to your heart’s chatter—and how doing so can transform the way you live, love, and lead.
🌀 When Mind Chatter Drowns Out the Heart
Most of us know what mind chatter sounds like.
It’s the inner critic. The perfectionist. The voice that whispers “You’re not ready” or “You’ll never get it right.”
It often comes from fear—fear of failure, rejection, or even success. And while that voice tries to protect us, it can also keep us stuck, disconnected, and exhausted.
Vicky reminded us that the heart’s chatter is something altogether different.
It’s not reactive; it’s responsive.
It doesn’t push; it invites.
It’s your intuition, your inner knowing, your connection to the deeper truth that lives within you.
When we learn to quiet the noise of the mind and listen to the wisdom of the heart, we begin to make choices that feel aligned—choices that lead us back home to ourselves.
💜 The Science of the Heart
Here’s what I found fascinating: our heart and brain are in constant conversation.
When we’re emotionally dysregulated—stressed, fearful, anxious—that connection becomes noisy and disjointed. We lose access to our intuition, creativity, and clear thinking.
But when we create coherence—when our heart and brain are in sync—we restore balance to our entire system.
In this state, we feel calm, clear, and connected.
We make decisions from wisdom, not worry.
And we can show up fully present, even when life feels uncertain.
🌿 A Simple Practice to Begin
Vicky shared that we can begin this shift in just a few minutes a day.
Here’s one simple practice you can try right now:
- Pause. Place your hand gently over your heart.
- Breathe. Slow your breath, in and out, as if you’re breathing through your heart.
- Feel. Bring to mind something that evokes gratitude or love.
This practice brings your heart and brain into coherence, quieting the noise and awakening your calm. Over time, it begins to rewire your brain and body toward greater resilience.
🌸 A Gentle Reminder
When emotions begin to rise, when the chatter grows loud, pause and remember:
💜 Your heart already knows the way.
💜 You don’t have to have all the answers.
💜 You only need to listen.

When was the last time you listened to your heart—and what did it say?
Take a moment today to write it down. Sometimes the wisdom we seek is already waiting… inside us.
🔮 Coming Next Week on The Creative Connection
As we learn to listen to the heart’s voice, another question naturally arises: What happens when we try to speak that truth aloud?
Next week, I’ll be joined by Priya Sudarsanam, where we’ll explore what it means to find your voice — not just metaphorically, but physically, spiritually, and even biologically.
From that first cry we make as newborns (the sound everyone waits to hear) to the ways life slowly quiets us down — and how, in seasons like perimenopause, our body and brain call us back to reclaim it — this episode will be a powerful reminder:
🗣 Your voice was never lost. It’s been waiting for you to remember it.
Stay tuned — it’s one you won’t want to miss. The Creative Connection Podcast
